Excellent Hostas for Your Muskoka Garden

The ‘Blue Angel’ is one of my favourite hostas for Mukoska.

Thisis a huge plant. Mine is four years old and is almost four feet across and three feet high. It is planted close to the front door of our cottage and every one who visits stops to admire it and ask for its name.

It is a lovely soft blue colour, and like most of the blues, does not enjoy full sun as much as the lime coloured hostas do. Ours gets a full morning of sun,as well aslate afternoon sun. It is shaded during the hottest part of the daybetween 12:00 to 3:00.

The leaves of this hosta are deeply veined and puckered. It is gorgeous to see raindrops or dew drops poised on the puckers.

Be careful not to plantthis hosta where it will get debris falling on it from surrounding trees, as the puckerstend tohold it, making the plant look messy. I am also careful to cut the bloom off this hosta before the petals begin to drop, for the same reason.

This is a great speciment plant which can be surrounded by clusters of smaller hostas. It also pairs and contrasts well with the giant lemon lime coloured hosta called ‘Sum and Substance’.

Most local Muskoka nurseries carry both ‘Blue Angel’ and ‘Sumand Substance’ hostas. Make sure you reserve a large space for them as they giveyou a lot of growth for your money.

These hostas would make excellent gifts for anyone who loves a garden. The recipient will have a lot of hosta to remember you by!
